I AM SAVING UP FOR A CHOPPER AND AM PLANNING TO USE IT TO ENHANCE MY CONTRACT OIL WELL OPERATIONS. IT WOULD BE A FIRST, FOR THIS APPLICATION IN SWAN HILLS ALBERTA. THE OILFIELD ROADS SOON EAT UP A 30,000 TRUCK. MY BIG CONCERN IS LICENSING IN ALTA. I HAVE CHECKED ON TRANSPORT CANADA WEB SITE BUT THE INFO. WAS VERY VAGUE AND ALL I COULD GET FROM IT IS, I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A FLIGHT MEDICAL. MAYBE YOU COULD HELP ME OUT. IM SAVING UP, BUT MAYBE MY TILE WILL HELP. THANKS A MILLION FOR DEVOTING ALL YOUR TIME AND EFFORT TO GIVE US SUCH A GREAT SHIP.
Unfortunately in Canada you still need a private helicopter license to be legal. We don't have an ultralight category for helicopters up here. I am working on trying to bring in reduced requirements to fly a solo helicopter but it won't happen overnight as we all know when dealing with the government. You also need to get your certificate of airworthiness (inspection by the MDRA) and get it registered.
Congratulations on your "tile" purchase in the Helicopter Giveaway
If you win, it will give you a very nice start on your training costs. Smile

DEN

HELLO JOHN U. Is there anything us interested parties can do to help you with your gov. licencing project.

skoal

Is a private helicopter license required to BUY a Mosquito in Canada or just to fly "legally"?

Den,

Sure, get about 1000 people to sign a petition saying single seat helicopters should qualify as an ultralight and have their own 10 or 15 hour training requirement which can be done in a 2 place homebuilt helicopter. That's what I'm pushing for. The training cost would go from about $25000 to about $4000.

Skoal,

I can sell you a helicopter. Training and registering are your responsibility.

DEN

THANKS JOHN U. HERE'S ANOTHER QUICK QUESTION. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO SET UP A PETITION SHEET ON THIS WEBSITE AND WOULD IT BE ACCEPTABLE TO THE GOVERMENT. REMEMBER, THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS. DEN.
Not a dumb question at all. The web master is working on making something up so we can move forward on this. I don't know at this point what it will do but I'm sure it will help and could make the difference.

How about converting a heavy helo driver to the Mossy? I have an ATPL(H) and considerable tim in S-61 and S-76. What sort of training plan would that sort of individual need?
Rotorhead,

None, since you can't be checked out in the Mosquito you can fly it when you are a rated pilot. This is the same for any homebuilt as far as I know. All the higher time pilots I've seen hop in the Mosquito, pick it up into a very solid hover and then fly off. You'll be no different. Ken Armstrong from Kitplanes said it flies like a Long Ranger and others trained in the Hughes 300 say it feels similar to the 300.
