John or anyone else in the know, can you tell us what the status of the Swift is? From what I had last heard, intentions were to have it in the air by now. How close is that reality, and can you shed light on any holdups? Any news would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
I agree, it is time for an update. Safari has a new machine, the 500 and other manufacturers are ramping up new models, but I have a lot of faith in the Mosquito brand and the people involved with them.

I've been hovering it around and had some video of it at Oshkosh.
I'm having some cooling issues so am sorting through that now. Going for a faster machine with a sleeker body shape forced me away from the big central centrifugal fan everyone normally uses to two smaller fans mounted behind each cylinder bank. But the ones I'm using aren't cutting it so I'm going to have to make some changes. I haven't put much time into it over the last year due to development of UAV's for various customers but am dedicating much more time to it now.

I was wondering if you have a ball park estimate on cost of the Swift? Also will this be sold in kit for also?

Hi, thanks for posting this interesting video!


Cabin width 48 inches is impressive, as they say, 4 inches more than the closest competitor which is likely the Rotorway A600. 

Granted I have only flown two helicopters so far,  the Schweizer 300 and R44 but both have excellent forward downward visibility which appears to be somewhat limited with this design, but finally hard to say if not sitting in there. 

It is interesting that within the international Mosquito family there seem to be two trends in the design of a two-seater helicopter. The European version Air2 with the engine vertically installed like the Safari and the North American version Swift with the engine horizontally installed and using a fenestron. 

Anyhow, it's exciting to see that there will be a two-seater Mosquito in the future which will likely use a four-stroke aircraft engine. I am halfway through my helicopter training, and even though I like the Mosquito concept, I am leaning heavy towards the Safari, with the main reason that the Mosquito has a two-stroke engine. But, now there is hope that something is coming with a four-stroke aircraft engine.  Smile
Oh boy...so this is how I know I'm becoming one of "those guys": good  video...but I'm cringing every time someone mentions "Fenestrom" or "Fan Tail" or all of that...I never wanted to become "that guy" lol but yeahhhhh....*cough* its actually just a shrouded standard tail rotor *cough* ugh excuse me, allergies and all   Rolleyes

A Fenestron (Fenestron is an Airbus trademark and btw. with an "n" at the end not "m") is technical "just" a ducted fan, at least the proposed advantages mainly seem to result from the housing around the rotor.  The Swift tail rotor may lack many of the typical Fenestron characteristics, but it's still a shrouded or ducted rotor. 

If your allergies have resolved and the cough is better you could enlighten and educate us what the main differences are between just a shrouded rotor and a Fenestron. That way, we would not be at risk to die stupid, at least not in that regard.  Big Grin
