Hello and some Newb Questions - Dick Campbell - 12-29-2017

Greetings Mosquito World;

Just received my private helicopter add-on rating last month.  Aero Engineer, EAA member and long time aviator, so have been researching ultralight and home-built helos.

I can definitely see a Mosquito of some flavor in my future, and I am planning to drag my travel trailer to Florida for the Trenton Fly-In, and then on to Sun n Fun.  In scouring the web, and searches on this forum, I have a few questions.

1.  What is the relationship of Composite-FX to Innovator technologies?  Are they an authorized dealer or factory rep?

2.  What is the relationship of Rotor F/X to Innovator Technologies?  I found one thread from 2012 indicating that they had been fired?

3.  Innovator Technologies appears to only supply kits to be built by a home builder.  Whereas both Composite FX and Rotor F/X seem to offer fully built aircraft?  How can they do this for an experimental aircraft?  Do they have A/W certificates?

Appreciate your patience with these questions.  I am certainly interested in building an XE or XE 285, my reason for going to Trenton, but I will also be interested in acquiring an already built Mosquito.

Any Mosquito flyers in TX?

Dick
Waco, TX

Dick,

This site is searchable. Here are a few videos that will answer some of your questions. Glad to seeing you considering a Mosquito. They are a lot of fun. Hope to see you at the fly-in.

Dick,

Appreciate your interest in the Mosquito.  Since you already have your rating the XE285 is perfect for you.  I have addressed your questions below.

1.  What is the relationship of Composite-FX to Innovator technologies?  Are they an authorized dealer or factory rep?

Innovator Technologies is the original designer of the Mosquito and overall owner.  I continue to produce all the running gear parts here in Calgary, Alberta so the completion kit is shipped out from here either directly to customers or to the Florida factory for customers who want factory builds or are doing the builder assist program.
Composite-FX is the producer of the fiberglass airframe for the XE model and also do the factory builds and builder assist program for XE customers who choose those options.  They are also the Mosquito dealer for SE US and do maintenance and upgrades for customers at their facility in Trenton, Florida
I also have Bryant Holdings in Kansas that does the airframes for the Air model and are the dealer for central US.

2.  What is the relationship of Rotor F/X to Innovator Technologies?  I found one thread from 2012 indicating that they had been fired?

Yes, RotorF/X was the dealer for SW US but I let them go due to their bizarre business practices.  I am still looking for a good dealer for both the SW and NW US.  They still seem to be dealing in aftermarket Mosquitoes but not through any connection to Innovator.

3.  Innovator Technologies appears to only supply kits to be built by a home builder.  Whereas both Composite FX and Rotor F/X seem to offer fully built aircraft?  How can they do this for an experimental aircraft?  Do they have A/W certificates?

Yes, I supply only the completion kit (all metal parts in the kit) here and send to customers or the Florida factory.  In order to have Composite build the helicopter for you in Florida you have to either order the ultralight model (XEL) or do the builders assist program (XE, XE285).   The finished experimental helicopters are inspected by their local DAR and signed off for the customer.

Thanks for the links. My search parameters were incorrect. I'll look for you at the fly-in. I suspect all my questions can be answered there.

Mosquito Designer, thanks for filling in the blanks. I look forward to Trenton, and I agree, I think the XE 285 is the one.
