The Bell 47 with the Franklin engine was underpowered. On a 95 degree day, I had to do a running take off with two of us on board. The Lycoming motor had adequate power for the stated limitations (gross weight, altitude density, etc.).

The drive train is only made to withstand a certain amount of power. Excessive wear and breakage are the results of running more power through the mechanical parts than they are designed for. If the turbine is de-tuned to generate only the amount of power that the remainder of the mechanical systems are made to handle, there shouldn't be a problem.
