Funeral Arrangements

John Walter Uptigrove

April 19, 1964 – Mahabaleshwar, India - July 15, 2018 – High River, Alberta

John beloved husband of Tracy Uptigrove of Rockyview, AB, passed away on July 15, 2018 at the age of 54 years.
John was born in Mahabaleshwar, India in 1964. He was the second son to missionary parents Ormond & Freda, and brother to Jim. The family returned to Canada in 1976. John grew up in Three Hills, Alberta and graduated from Prairie High School. He obtained a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Calgary in 1987. John’s career started with Nova, stationed in Fairview, Alberta where he met his future wife, Tracy. They were married in 1992 and had two beautiful children, Brandon and Meghanne. John pursued his passion for helicopters by establishing his business, Innovator Technologies, designing and manufacturing ultralight helicopters. He was constantly part of new and upcoming innovative programs to launch technology to the furthest. He was active in his church at First Alliance, serving people in need as part of the tool team ministry. He enjoyed water sports and tennis, as well as watching his daughter play sports like ringette and ultimate, and he loved to engage in a heated video game battle with his son, as long as he won (but he frequently lost).
John had a very large laugh that was contagious. His children were the light of his life and will miss his bad jokes and warm hugs. His wife will miss the life they built together. He will be greatly missed by many.
John is survived by his wife Tracy and his two wonderful children, Brandon and Meghanne and his mother Freda. He is also survived by his brother Jim and wife Michele, and nieces Elise and Hannah, as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. He was predeceased by his father Dr. Ormond Uptigrove.
Memorial Service will be held at First Alliance Church – Harvest Room (12345 – 40th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Atrium. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassion Canada, or Tool Team at FAC in memory of John.
In living memory of John Uptigrove, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th STREET S.E.. Telephone: 403-203-0525.
Offer Condolence for the family of UPTIGROVE, John Walter
As a follow up:
Representing the Mosquito Community, Dwight, Paul G, and I went to Calgary to attended Johns funeral. The funeral was attended by his extended family about two hundred friends. In the days following the funeral we visited with the family and also made contact with multiple machine shops and other vendors that produce Mosquito parts to work details to insure source of supplies were not interrupted while the family and Composite FX sort out the business details.

After which, using published news reports, we were able to located and visit the accident site (50.785543, - 113.813809) near the Highwood River Bridge on Highway 552 (located 50.783506, - 113.821239).

To reiterate Dwight’s earlier post, the Canadian Transport Authorities are conducting the investigation and have not finalized there report. That said, In discussion with the family they ruled out mechanical failure as having any roll in the accident. As we receive information we will post it for everyone to review.

Yesterday, we left Calgary, Dwight and Paul traveled to Oshkosh to talk at the helicopter pilots briefing and at the booth and I returned to work.
Well done. Thanks!
